Pre-cleaning of plates is in almost all cases a simple high-pressure water cleaning, where all loose scaling and fouling will be removed. Depending on the severity of the scaling or fouling, this will be followed by high pressure steam cleaning.

Some scaling is of a very hard nature and not possible to dissolve in any acid or caustic solution. In cases like these we are using powder blasting followed by high-pressure steam or water.

For other types of hard scaling the preferred method to remove the scaling is by using liquid nitrogen. Liquid nitrogen is also used in connection with removal of gaskets glued with two component epoxy.

The majority of the more than half a million plates we clean every year are chemically cleaned. A carefully selected cleaning solution will be used to assure the quickest possible cleaning. Different temperatures, agitation, and concentrations will be utilized to assure maximum cleaning efficiency. It is not always possible to reach the required result by using one cleaning solution. Sometimes hours in a agitated acid solution has to be followed by hours or even days in a high temperature caustic solution.
